My gear list varies a great deal between activities and seasons. When I guide trips, I bring a crapton of stuff that I wouldn’t normally bring for myself since my mileage tends to be low and I’m caring for people and carrying a gigantic first aid kit. The only things I haven’t listed are clothes and food, which again, very distinctly between trips. Scroll down for gear reviews!

I should also note that when I need to cut weight, I tend to drop my tent body and sleep on the footprint under the rainfly, I switch my nalgenes out for old SmartWater bottles, and sometimes use a much smaller pack (Deuter Guide Lite SL 28+L, which weighs 2.1 pounds). These little changes cut almost three pounds from my total weight. I’m not an ultralight backpacker by any stretch, but I like to be aware of my pack weight, which never goes above 30lbs on personal trips.
